While Nycto is not complete, that doesn't mean I didn't do anything these last two weeks. At the very least, it means I've both learned a lot and have a lot more to learn. If you have the time, please check out this quick video I made. Everything that I was able to accomplish in these 2 weeks is outlined there.

GDD: Nycto - Game Design Document

Nycto will be a story-centric, skill-based platformer. You control a sentient robot built by humans in the distant future, to do the work too dangerous for anyone else to do. Advancements in technology allow for you to be entirely solar-powered, only requiring the constant illumination of a household lightbulb to function. You happen to be assigned to a mining ship in deep space, in search of planets with rare ores not found on earth.

The story starts when you find a promising planet. As the ship is landing, it malfunctions and crashes. Miraculously, you survive, but only for now. The planet you've landed on has a day-night cycle as long as one year back on Earth. With the sun already on the horizon, it is only a matter of time before it's light's out for you too.

Left with no other choice you head back into the dying ship. You scavenge whatever materials you can find, from frayed wires to mining equipment that survived the crash, and bring it all to the surface. Through trial and error, and a bit of percussive engineering, you create stronger and stronger light sources. With each iteration, you venture further into the ship, deeper into the shadows of the wreckage, and deeper into the alien rock. Will you create a strong enough light source to survive the night, or will you die trying?
